The Schumacher: Travel Safely

Every single year more and more technologically advanced cars get put on the market. They offer expanded features, new designs, and ways to make your car much safer.

However, there is no sign that any car is safe from breaking down. Vehicles, like all kinds of technology, are unpredictable.

No matter how safe a car is, or how new it is, there is always a risk that it might break down for whatever reason, and you need to be prepared.

Now I know you might think, “I have my phone, so if something happens, help is just a phone call away!” But there have been countless times personally, where I am on the road and my phone dies as I am on my commute home from work.

This is where you may need some extra help. Thankfully, the Schumacher XP2260 Portable Power Source and Jump Starter is there to help.

This portable device, at 1200 Peak Amps, is tailor-made to be one of the most effective jump-starters you can buy. It can not only jump-start your dead vehicle, but can also charge your devices to make sure you are never left with a device that’s out of commission. And it also is an air compressor so it can be used to inflate your tires.

Summary:

The Schumacher XP2260 Portable Power Source and Jump Starter is built to jump-start any vehicle when you need it most!

It runs at 1200 Peak Amps. As for size, it measures at 12.2 x 12.5 x 12.1 inches, and weighs in at 24 pounds. There is an off/on switch attached to the machine, so you can be sure when there is a current running through it, helping with your safety.

There is an internal battery on the inside of the Schumacher that automatically recharges; however it does need to be connected to an extension cord for a full charge (an extension cord is not included). When the battery fully dies, it can take more than 24 hours to fully charge it back up again.

There is a great LED system that warns you when your battery is getting low, so you can know on any trip if it is good to go in case of an emergency. The Sure-Grip clamps are included with the Schumacher, allowing you to attach on top or on the side of the vehicle’s battery.

Comparison:

The Schumacher XP2260 Portable Power Source and Jump Starter, while very popular is not the only type of portable jump-starter on the market today. The Jump-N-Carry JNC770R 1700 Peak Amp Premium 12-Volt Jump Starter has all the muscle of the Schumacher but without the air compressor component.

The STANLEY J5C09 Jump Starter: 1000 Peak/500 Instant Amps, 120 PSI Air Compressor is another very robust performer with all the bells and whistles of the Schumacher but without the air compressor runit

Each has its similarities to the Schumacher, but there are many differences. The Stanley only runs on 1000 Peak Amps, 200 less than the Schumacher.

However, it is equipped with a high-powered LED light that rotates 270 degrees for night-time emergencies. It also has USB ports for charging smart devices, and a 120 PSI Compressor with a Backlight Gauge.

The Stanley has a reverse polarity alarm, alerting you if there is an improper connection (this is great for people new to jump-starting vehicles). The Jump-N-Carry is more powerful than both running at 1700 Peak Amps.

It runs on the state-of-the-art Clore PROFORMER Battery, one of the best in the industry. It also comes with 68 inch heavy-duty #2 AWG cables, for jump-starting.

Verdict:

The Schumacher XP2260 Portable Power Source and Jump Starter does in fact get the job done. It is a strong machine, with a great history of always working when you need it most. That being said, I do not think it is the best one for purchase.

Many others on the market offer what the Schumacher offers, with even more additional features. The Schumacher XP2260 does not come with an LED light (for nighttime emergencies) or an alarm system to warn you if you connect it wrong.

I believe both of these are very important when purchasing a portable jump starter and unfortunately the Schumacher features neither. However, if you are well experienced in jump-starting vehicles, the Schumacher will not let you down!
